Next Audition
Enrolments are open for January 2011 Intake.
Auditions will be held during the week 11-15 October 2010.
Applications are required before 25 August to allow for ABSTUDY travel arrangements.
What is an Audition?
An audition is where you do a trial performance that allows us to see your skills and commitment to a performance.
Auditions are held at the Aboriginal Centre for Performing Arts in South Brisbane twice a year (usually around April and November) for courses starting in January and July. Applicants are required to present a 2-3 minute audition piece in your preferred art form as part of the audition process, for example, you could either choose to sing, dance or act out a scene. We do not expect students to be perfect, just committed and enthusiastic about their dreams and aspirations.
Remember to bring anything you require for your audition piece such as music, props etc. ACPA can supply CD and DVD Players if required. We also have selection of musical instruments available for your use, if you're unable to bring your own.
Note: If you need to travel to Brisbane for the audition you may be eligible for fares and accommodation assistance through Abstudy. ACPA staff will be able to help you find local accommodation for the period of the audition.
What will happen at the audition?
You will be required to arrive at 9am on the day of audition and will have plenty of time to prepare and familiarise yourself with the audition room.
The ACPA Artistic Director, will be in charge of your audition. The Artistic Director may invite others with expertise in your field into the audition room as well. A family member who is supporting you will be allowed into the audition.
Following the presentation of your audition piece there will be an informal chat with the ACPA Student Co-ordinator. You will also be required to complete a literacy and numeracy test.
You will be notified by mail of the result of your audition. If your audition is successful you will be offered a place at ACPA.
How to prepare for an audition?
Choose a song, dance, or monologue you feel comfortable with and practice.
When choosing a piece, ask yourself the following questions
- Do you like it?
- Are you comfortable performing it?
- Do you enjoy performing it?
- Is it long enough or too long?
- Do you need accompanying music or props?
Please note that the better prepared you are the less nervous you will be. Remember to bring any props or music you will need. If you have any questions on equipment you may need please contact the staff at ACPA.
